Erfurt: Guide

Erfurt er hovedstaden i den tyske delstaten Thüringen. Byen har 196 500 innbyggere.

Den nevnes første gang 742 under navnet Erphesfurt, og var en viktig handelsby i middelalderen. I 1803 ble Erfurt en del av kongeriket Preussen. Selv om den var omgitt av Thüringen, forble den preussisk til 1945. Etter den tyske gjenforening ble Erfurt hovedstad i den gjenopprettede staten Thüringen.

Erfurts våpen er to kirkebygninger (Mariendom og Severikirche) som står ved siden av hverandre.

Severdigheter

Augustinerklosteret, hvor Martin Luther levet som munk fra 1505-1511|11.
Krämerbrücke, en bro som krysser elven Gera, dekket av bygninger. Den ble bygget 1325 med en kirke på hver side - den ene eksisterer stadig.

Forskjellig

Erfurt er fødested for en av Johann Sebastian Bachs fettere, Johann Bernhard Bach (1676-1749), og også sosiologen Max Weber (1864-1920). Erfurt er hjembyen til Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann, en av tidenes største skøyteløpere. Byens nye skøytehall ble i 2001 oppkalt etter Niemann-Stirnemann da den fikk navnet Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann Halle. Erfurt er en av Tysklands tre store skøytesentre. De to andre er Inzell og Berlin.
