Potsdam: Guide
Potsdam er hovedstaden i Brandenburg i Tyskland, og har 131 900 innbyggere. Den ligger like vest for Berlin, ved elven Havel.
Potsdam ble antagelig grunnlagt allerede i det 10. århundre. Byen nevnes første gang i 993. Den forble en ubetydelig landsby inntil den ble valgt som residens av kurfyrst Friedrich Wilhelm I av Brandenburg|Friedrich Wilhelm I i 1660. Byen ble senere også valgt som residens for Preussens kongefamilie. De majestetiske bygningene ble i hovedsak bygget under Fredrik den Store. Slottet Sanssouci er en av disse. Mens Berlin var den offisielle hovedstaden i Preussen og senere i Tyskland, forble hoffet i Potsdam. Byen mistet imidlertid sin status som en annen hovedstad i 1918, da kongen av Preussen og keiseren av Tyskland måtte abdisere.
