Lucca: Guide
Lucca er en by i Toscana med 90 000 innbyggere. Det er en av de rikeste og mest konservative byer i Norditalia.
Lucca ble grunnlagt av etruskerne og ble en romersk koloni i 180 f.Kr.
I det tiende og ellevte århundre var Lucca hovedstaden i det føydale markgrevskapet Toscana, underlagt den tysk-romerske rike|tysk-romerske keiser.
Byen ble i 1806 overtatt av Napoleon Bonaparte|Napoleon, og ble deretter et bourbonsk hertugdømme. Keiserens søster Elisa Bonaparte (1877-1820) ble storhertuginne av Lucca.
Byen opphørte som selvstendig nasjonal enhet ved Italias samling.
Byen er omgitt av en intakt og meget omfattende og bred bymur.
Lucca er Giacomo Puccinis fødested. Casa de Puccini er åpen for almenheten, og i Torre del Lago, hvor Puccini hadde et hus, finner en Puccini-operafestival sted hvert år i september.
